The purpose of the present research was to analyze the definition of "independent work", determine the role and place in the system of professionally-pedagogical training of teacher of physical culture, expert in the field of physical culture and sport, consider this kind of activity of students as a condition of formation of professional competences.
 
Nowadays information-communicative technologies, activating educational-cognitive activity of students on all stages of educational process are on the first place among the forms, methods and means of education facilitating improvement of the elite expert training process.
 
Professional methods of activity independently acquired by students while using intensive pedagogical technologies act there not as an end in itself, but one of most acute means and conditions of their development as personalities and professional competences as future experts. The high level of student involvement in self-educative creative activity promotes considering the range of capacities of this or that form of pedagogical activity to allocate and show personalprofessional abilities to activate educative self-organization, self-training, personal development as a foundation for formation of professional competence.
