 Solution of the crucial national-wide problem – training of elite experts is a priority direction of modernization of professional education, stipulating for the use of health protection principles in the educational system [1-3]. Student years are an important stage of development of future bachelors and masters of different traditional humanitarian university specialties, when their abilities are being discovered, intelligence is being developed and knowledge are being extended. In the last decades the tendency to deterioration of health and physical activity of young students has been marked. Studentship has always been an object of special attention. Health problems among young people are the state priority due to numerous factors. Firstly, young people are the main manpower reserve of modern Russia, secondly, the state of young people today is national health in the future [4-5].

Nowadays the necessity of formation of students’ need for healthy way of life and insufficient studies of the phenomenon of healthy way of life of young students in modern conditions contradict with each other. Though the idea of healthy way of life itself is not new and has been studied in the works by N.M. Amosov, A.P. Butenko, E.N. Weiner, M.Y. Vilensky, L.I. Lubysheva et al.

The purpose of the study was to examine the phenomenon when physical and recreational university activity renders a positive effect on formation of the students’ need for healthy way of life.

Materials and methods. The methods used were as follows: theoretical analysis and synthesis of theoretical and methodological literature; theoretical analysis and synthesis of teaching materials; educational observation; questionnaire; educational routine tests and statistical methods.

The main educational experiment was based on Volgograd state university and Kuban state university (affiliate, Slavyansk-na-Kubani) in the period 2010-2012. 17-20-year-old students were the subjects of the studies.

Results and discussion. As proved by the personal studies of students’ state of health, their health potential is increasing in the course of studies. It was shown in the deviations from standard indices of physical development, depression of functions of cardiovascular system, decrease of physical working capacity and increase of fatigue. We believe, this phenomenon results from the contradiction between the need for intensification of the educational process to improve expert’s professional skills and the underestimation of the recreational and educative roles of physical culture.

In order to improve the quality of the educational process students' demands and abilities in the sphere of physical culture and sport were studied and based on the obtained information curricula were corrected to achieve the firm motivation to classes of physical culture and healthy way of life, to promote the promotion and protection of health of participants of the educational process, form the health protecting competence of future bachelors and masters.

The research results enabled starting the formation of conceptual provisions defining the guidelines of the health protection process within physical education of students. The analysis of the developed concept promoted stipulating its important components which are as follows:

–        The need to modernize the real process of physical education of students in the context of effective strengthening of its health protecting potential;

–        Implementation of the fundamental ideas during physical education of students involves the formation of the model health protecting technology and the structure of medicobiological support of the quoted process;

–        The use of the system and comprehensive approaches to modernization of the theory and technologies of formation of physical culture in students.

The knowledge about the influence of professional activity on health was considered an important function of physical and recreational activity, aimed at developing students' ideas about the means of health promotion and health culture:

1. Formation of students’ biomedical knowledge:

- about the importance of motor activity for human health, eutrophy, means and methods of hardening, bad habits and their negative impact on health, diseases and methods of their prevention, alternative medicine, sanitary-hygienic standards and rules, environmental issues, the influence of state institutions on mental health;

- development of cognitive activity and independence of students in the field of health, physical culture and motivational guideline to healthy way of life;

- formation of the positive attitude of students to their health;

- students’ knowledge of the specifics of functioning of their body and health.

2. Development of skills and abilities of healthy way of life:

– effectively perform morning exercises (set of exercises) and hardening of the body, rational and correct nutrition, regular classes of physical culture and sport;

– training of personality traits that affect students’ health promotion (willpower, self-control, endurance, diligence, etc.).

3. Practical activities of students for health improvement:

– observance of the correct daily timetable and rest, participation in competitions, training in sports sections and sports clubs, compliance with the rules and principles of healthy way of life, study of special literature on leading healthy way of life, participation in scientific and practical conferences and discussions on healthy way of life

The findings justify the hypothesis of our research. The forming experiment has revealed significant evidence of the active dynamics of the level of knowledge on healthy way of life in the experimental group of students.

Conclusions. Proceeding from the results of the experiments, the subjected model of physical and recreational university activity for students or its single components can be applied effectively in the system of teaching health protection among the young people of Russia. When necessary the components of the quoted system can be adapted when used not only in the system of higher school, but in other educational institutions.
