The current extensive spread of home computers, DVD players, portable electronic games, television sets and video game consoles makes it possible to entertain a child with a vast amount of multimedia materials, learning programs and interactive games. It can be a good way to entertain a child for his parents tired after the hard day's work and at home. The study is intended to reveal how long and how often children watch TV and play computer and video games, who has a computer, big display and digital television set at home, how many children have home exercise machines and game consoles, how often they use them and if they use game consoles for exercising. The subjects were city and rural preschool children of different age.

The purpose of the study was to make a comparative analysis of the passive and active components of the tube time of city and rural preschool children and availability and use of exercise machines and equipment for electronic games among children.

The research results adduced in the given paper testify to sufficient number of computers and digital television sets among city and rural preschool children that can be efficiently used for active video games. Many preschool children play electronic games at different intervals, including portable electronic toys with a liquid-crystal screen a child holds in his hands. Meanwhile, very few families have game computer or video consoles. It must be due to unwillingness of parents to accustom their child to sitting at the computer for hours and lack of interesting active electronic games.
