Key words: simulation exercises, technique, snowless period, lack of time for studies.

The purpose of the research was to solve the problem of teaching skiing technique due to lack of time for studies and snow. As one of the solutions of the set situation the researchers tried to work and introduce into study process of the innovative model of teaching skiing technique to increase the level of knowledge, skills and abilities in teaching skiing technique in sports university students. The study was based on Chaikovsky state institute of physical culture in 2007 – 2010. The university students not specializing in cross-country skiing took part in the research.

The basic research methods included pedagogical observation, pedagogical test, video analysis and expert evaluation of skiing technique. The studies revealed the positive effect of the innovative model of teaching skiing technique based on the set of simulation exercises on the level of students’ technical and physical preparedness. The growth of the level of technical and physical preparedness took place in the following parameters:

- improvement of results in the cyclic indices by 27% in classic strides and 25,55% in skating strides.

- decrease of time for passing the 50-m distance by 25,86% using classic stride and 25,9% by skating stride.

- increase of the general fitness level in 3 indices in male students: in 1000-m run results, pull-ups and standing long jump, and in 3 indices in female students: in 1000-m run results, push-ups standing long jump. The increase of indices was 71 score (or 3,55%).
