Objective of the study was is to experimentally substantiate the technology of computer-based monitoring and rating of students’ academic progress in elective physical education and sport disciplines.
Methods and structure of the study. The experiment was carried out on the basis of the universities of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic and involved 536 students of the 1st-3rd years of study (210 young males and 326 females) engaged in various elective activities: basketball, volleyball, swimming. To evaluate the students’ academic progress in the elective physical education and sport disciplines, a specially designed computer program was introduced. The students independently registered in the program, participated in the oral and electronic surveys, conducted initial testing of the levels of physical development, functional and physical fitness, created a database of personal data. Further on, together with the teacher, the students filled in the indicators of the remaining five control tests. The computer program calculated the compliance of the source data with the established standards of physical development, functional and physical fitness, and showed the dynamics of changes in the results (effects) at the operational, current and cumulative levels.
Before and after the experiment, we conducted a survey among the participants to identify their motives, which were then grouped by their orientation: wellness, aesthetic and sports.
Results of the study and conclusions. The methodology for monitoring and rating students’ academic progress, developed on the basis of the use of information technologies, helped shift their motivation towards physical development and functional capabilities, improve the dynamics of indicators of body functions and weight parameters, promote systematic studies and increase attendance by 28.5% (at p<0.05).
To rate students’ academic progress in elective disciplines, it is necessary monitor the parameters of functional capabilities and physical development, which get prioritized by students.

Keywords: student, elective disciplines, physical health, monitoring and ratin, academic rating.
