Objective of the study was to compare the physical development indicators of athletes practicing judo and taekwondo.
Methods and structure of the study. The study involved 57 young men specializing in judo and taekwondo, middle weight categories, aged 17-21 years, with the sports qualification of the 1st adult category - Master of Sports. All athletes underwent the necessary anthropometric measurements. The somatotype was assessed using the Heath-Carter scheme. External respiration was studied using the spirometry method, the strength of the flexor muscles of the hand - using the dynamometry method. The index method was used to assess physical development.
Results and conclusions. In judokas of average weight categories, aged 17-21 years, a balanced mesomorphic body type prevails, while in taekwondo athletes it is ecto-mesomorphic. Along with this, the component composition of body mass in judokas is distinguished by a higher content of muscle mass, compared to taekwondo athletes. The indicators of physical development of martial artists depend to a greater extent on the type of build than on sports specialization. Reliable differences were found in the values of the vital index between representatives of the balanced mesomorphic and endo-mesomorphic types, between representatives of the balanced mesomorphic and ecto-mesomorphic; in the values of the weight-height index - between athletes of the ecto-mesomorphic and endo-mesomorphic somatotype; in terms of proportionality of development – between representatives of the balanced mesomorphic and ecto-mesomorphic types, as well as between representatives of the ecto-mesomorphic and endo-mesomorphic types.
