Keywords: students, physical education and sports, standards, GTO.
Research aim: to determine the readiness of university students to meet the GTO standards.
Methodology and research organization.
Physical fitness testing was conducted among 72 female and 68 male students aged 18–19, classified as part of the main medical group and not engaged in sports.
Results and discussion.
The results showed that out of 72 female students, only 14 (19.5%) met the GTO standards: 11 achieved the "bronze" level, and 3 achieved the "silver" level. Among male students, 12 out of 68 (17.6%) met the standards: 10 achieved "bronze," and 2 achieved "silver."
Female students struggled most with the 2000-meter run, with results (13:11.01 ± 0.22 min) significantly below the "bronze" level. Push-up results were slightly above the "bronze" level (17.40 ± 0.97 repetitions). Standing long jump results slightly exceeded the "silver" level (175.20 ± 2.13 cm). Abdominal strength tests were close to the "gold" level (40.50 ± 1.03 repetitions). Flexibility test results exceeded the "gold" standard (16.49 ± 0.68 cm).
Male students also struggled with the 3000-meter run, with results (16:19.06 ± 0.63 min) below the "bronze" level. Push-up (38.38 ± 2.34 repetitions) and sit-up (47.00 ± 1.72 repetitions) results were close to the "gold" level. Standing long jump results ranged between "silver" and "gold" (224.6 ± 5.34 cm), while flexibility results slightly exceeded the "silver" level (11.00 ± 1.52 cm).
Conclusions.
The readiness of students to meet the GTO standards is low. However, there is potential for improvement if more time is allocated to physical training, with a focus on addressing weaknesses. It is advisable to align the standards of the academic program with the GTO norms.
