Objective of the study: To develop methods for studying and enhancing by suggestion the five components of willpower in student athletes during the formation of the dominant of A.A. Ukhtomskiy.
Methods and structure of the study: The research was conducted in three universities of Tyumen on 214 female students (control) before suggestion and on the same 214 female students after suggestion of positive emotions (experiment). Suggestion increased the tone of the brain's nerve centers and willpower as a method of achieving any goal, from the point of view of A.A. Ukhtomsky's doctrine of the dominant. For this purpose, we developed a survey methodology for studying willpower, dividing it into 5 component dominants: courage, endurance, persistence, initiative, independence. During the survey, students assessed each component of willpower on a five-point scale, where one is the minimum presence of each quality, and five points are the maximum. 20 minutes after determining willpower by 5 component parts, suggestion of positive emotions was initially carried out in the control to enhance willpower by 5 dominants for 6 minutes, then willpower was determined again in the same female students. Statistics were performed using the Student's t-test.
Results and conclusions: Under the influence of suggestion, the degree of expression of behavioral qualities characterizing the manifestation of «willpower» of student-athletes increases. After suggestion, the intensity of manifestation of each of the components of willpower (courage, endurance, persistence, initiative, independence) increased from 21% to 39.6%. The average value (M₁±m₁) of the sum of all 5 components of willpower per student before suggestion was M₁=3.25±0.13 (p<0.01), and after suggestion to increase willpower, the average value increased to M₂=4.21±0.095 (p<0.01). In this work, we proved for the first time that suggestion can increase the tone of the nerve centers that regulate the manifestation of willpower parameters in the form of 5 dominants.
