Introduction. Patriotic education is an integral part of the educational process and occupies an important place in shaping the civic position of the younger generation. Engaging in sports and training activities is a tool for developing citizenship and patriotism among young people. Playing sports helps to strengthen health, general well-being and improve physical performance, as well as contribute to the development of the will to win, compassion and honesty. Training and sports activities develop discipline, cooperation, and team spirit, and these qualities are an integral part of an active, responsible person. Through sports practice, young people develop civic qualities and patriotic attitudes, such as respect for rules and laws, leadership skills, and a sense of solidarity, which is confirmed by a number of studies [1, 2].
The purpose of the study is to determine the predominant type of patriotic attitudes of students engaged in sports and training activities.
Methodology and organization of the research. A sociological study will be conducted on the basis of Ulyanovsk universities, among students of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Rehabilitation (UlSU) and the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports (Ulyanov State Pedagogical University).
The results of the study and their discussion. According to the results of the study, the predominant type of patriotic attitudes of students engaged in training and sports activities will be determined, and the factors influencing their formation of patriotism will be highlighted. The nature of students' patriotic attitudes at the activity, cognitive and emotional levels will be analyzed, the role of teachers in the process of patriotic education of students will be determined.
Conclusions. The results of the sociological research will test the hypothesis that training and sports activities are an effective mechanism for the formation of patriotic attitudes among students.
The research was carried out within the framework of the state task of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation for 2024 (the research topic is "Mechanisms of transmission of historical memory as the basis for the formation of patriotic attitudes of youth in historical retrospect and the conditions of the current situation (regional aspect)").
