The article is dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports (FPE&S) of the Transbaikal State University (TSU), the history of which is inextricably linked with the development of physical education and sports in the Transbaikal Territory.
Objective of the study was to identify the role of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of Transbaikal State University as a flagship in the development of sports life in the Transbaikal Territory in the aspect of historical analysis.
Methods and structure of the study. In the course of the scientific work, a set of all-Union and Russian regulatory documents in the field of physical culture and sports and reporting materials from the funds of the State Archive of the Transbaikal Territory, which reflect the activities of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the Transbaikal State University, was summarized; an analysis and correlation of information extracted from the above documents was carried out.
Results and conclusions. Throughout the entire existence of the faculty, it has been training specialists necessary for the region - physical education teachers, coaches, organizers of sports events and, of course, personnel who ensure high achievements in sports. In addition, the article notes that the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports of Transbaikal State University is a permanent initiator and organizer of sports events at the city, regional, all-Russian and international levels, some of which have now become traditional. Much attention is paid to the activities of this division of the university in the context of changes in regulatory documents reflecting the development of physical education and sports in our country. The authors come to the conclusion that the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports of the University currently retains its purpose as an advanced center for training personnel for the sphere of physical education and sports of the Transbaikal Territory and other regions of the Russian Federation.
