Improving sports classification in sports for people with intellectual disabilities

Objective of the study was to development of approaches to improving sports classification in sports for people with intellectual disabilities.
Methods and structure of the study. Based on the results of comparison of three groups: athletes with Down syndrome, classical mental retardation and autism spectrum disorder, individual characteristics of athletes in each group were identified. This allows dividing athletes into classes depending on their physical and intellectual capabilities, taking into account their different psycho-emotional states.
Results and conclusions. It has been established that a necessary condition for providing equal opportunities for each athlete from the listed groups is to conduct a differential analysis of the intellectual, physical and adaptive capabilities of athletes. The object of such analysis is to highlight the key differences and similarities between the presented groups of athletes.
