Introduction. Corruption scandals in sports activities can affect both athletes, coaches, and competition organizers, as well as other specialists in this industry. This can construct different meanings and accents of sports activity [1], as well as form specific prosocial activity around it [2].
In any case, coaches become the object of social pressure. Since it is assumed (thanks to the images indicated in the media) that they have all the resources to pressure and regulate relations between all interested parties) as a result of corruption scandals and this cannot but affect the coaching community as a social group in principle.
The purpose of the study is the self–assessment by sports coaches of the degree and nature of the impact of corruption on the socio-psychological state.
Methodology and organization of the study. 480 coaches from various sports fields took part in the survey. Of these, 68% are men and 32% are women aged 40 to 60 years who have been coaching for more than 5 years. The research method was a questionnaire survey.
The results of the study and their discussion. Coaches are reluctant to talk about corruption in sports, as they perceive even a survey on this topic as a personal insult (56%) or an encroachment on professional honor (44%). This becomes a landmark indicator, as it reveals a violation of the deep meanings of sport as such. Nevertheless, 38% of the coaches surveyed had experienced some kind of corruption directly. All 100% have heard about corruption in sports.
A quarter (25%) of respondents indicated that there are social stereotypes that there is more corruption in some sports (for example, football, hockey, boxing), and less in others (fencing, chess, running). But they also emphasize that these are subjective judgments based on what is being said or not being said in the Mass media and the Internet. According to their estimates, the key problem of information about corruption is not even in the fact of violation of the law and ethics of competitions, but in excessive public attention to these issues. A change in this situation can transform social attitudes and priorities of social development in sports as a sphere of social life and the realization of personal opportunities of participants in the sports and near-sports sphere.
The majority of coaches (75%) believe that the fanning of corruption scandals is the merit of the media and social networks, in fact, there are quite a few real offenses. But the abandoned grain always gives roots. Therefore, rumors of corruption are always heated up in order to influence the psycho-emotional state of athletes and thereby change the result of the game. These are the so-called indirect methods of influencing the results of competitions.
Conclusions. Corruption as a form of violation of the philosophy of sports can become the basis for building anti-corruption propaganda, since at an unconscious level, coaches do not accept and resist even the potential possibility of corruption. And if you think about the prevention of corruption in sports, then this aspect can become the key meaning of changing the perception of public consciousness in this area.
