Introduction. In the modern world, tensions in society are increasing, which is due to the influence of various factors contributing to the deterioration of the psycho-emotional state and the growth of nervous tension. In addition, there is a deterioration in the health of the population. All this necessitates the popularization of a healthy lifestyle and mass sports among the population of the country. The Humanitarian and Pedagogical Academy (branch) of the V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University has significant potential to solve this important pedagogical health-preserving task, since the geographical location of the educational institution on the southern coast of Crimea and the possibilities of using climatotherapy and landscape therapy contribute to this.
The purpose of the study is to identify the university's opportunities in the development of mass sports.
Research results and their discussion. At the Humanitarian and Pedagogical Academy (branch) of the V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University, on the initiative of the teachers of the Department of Health and Rehabilitation, conditions have been created for the development of mass sports in the student and teaching environment of the university. Among the areas of activity for the development of mass sports in the student environment, we highlight training, competitive, volunteer, refereeing, educational, health-improving, and advocacy. For teachers, team sports (football, volleyball, basketball, tennis) are held twice a week in the sports hall. A gym is equipped for students and teachers. A student football team has been organized. Beach volleyball is held in the spring-summer-autumn periods. Classes in athletics are held at the Avangard stadium and the Youth Sports School. Chess tournaments for students and teachers are organized in one of the academic buildings. Natural and climatic conditions are widely used to organize hikes: to Mount Ai-Petri, along the Tsarskaya Trail, through the Massandrovsky and Vorontsovsky parks. According to the results of the study, after classes in mass sports, students and teachers show an improvement in indicators of psycho-emotional state, they become more active, positive, and efficient.
Conclusions. The results of the study confirm the great potential of mass sports and its positive impact on the psycho-emotional state of students and teachers, the solution of mass health improvement tasks and the increase in the desire for a healthy lifestyle, an increase in physical activity, an increase in interest in physical culture and sports, attendance of university and city sports and mass events in different capacities (participant, volunteer, fan), an increase in attendance of physical education classes.
