Objective of the study was to conduct a comparative analysis of the results of the performances of the Russian men's and women's national wrestling teams (discipline - freestyle wrestling) with other Russian national teams at the Olympic Games for the period from 2004 to 2020.
Methods and structure of the study. The following methods were used in the work: analysis of scientific and methodological literature, analysis of official protocols of competitions at the Olympic Games from 2004 to 2020. in sports wrestling (discipline - freestyle wrestling), methods of mathematical statistics.
Results and conclusions. The indicators that determine the quality of preparation and performance of Russian national teams at the Olympic Games from 2004 to 2020 have been calculated. A comparative analysis of the dynamics of these indicators was carried out for the men's and women's Russian national wrestling teams (discipline - freestyle wrestling) and on average for all Russian athletes participating in the Olympic Games.
The men's team consistently shows high results throughout all Olympic cycles and brings to the overall medal box 2.94 times more Olympic medals per discipline than the average for all sports, and 5.1 times more gold medals. The women's wrestling team shows results slightly higher than the average for all sports in terms of the total number of awards won, but lower in gold ones. At the same time, a noticeable decline in results after 2016 is alarming and requires correction in the women’s team’s training system.
