Popularization of mass sports events in Siberian higher education institutions (PDF)

Introduction. Currently, such a direction as the organization of various mass sports events that would attract up to 90% of student youth to systematic physical education and sports is being updated in the sports field.
The purpose of the study is to assess the state of physical culture and sports activities in the universities of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
Methodology and organization of the study. To analyze the physical culture and sports activities of university students of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the results of the participation of students of the region in the traditional Universiade were taken. The following indicators were taken as evaluation indicators: the number of universities participating in the Universiade; the total number of students participating in competitions; the most popular sports among young people in the region; sports teams cultivated in universities and their participation in student sports leagues; the material base for physical culture and sports; the number of hours of teaching physical culture at universities; inclusion of the results of physical culture and sports activities of students in the internal rating of the university, etc.
The results of the study and their discussion. The results of universities' participation in the regional Universiade according to the above indicators are presented in the table.
The analysis showed that less than 50% of 17 universities participated in the regional Universiade. The material base for physical culture and sports is available only in four universities (23.5%), only 5.2% participate in physical culture and sports events of the regional Universiade, etc.
Conclusion. The conducted theoretical and statistical analysis showed the general state of physical culture and sports activities of students in Siberian universities (on the example of the Krasnoyarsk Territory), where industry departments and university leaders need to pay attention to the development of modern forms and technologies of youth activation to participate in various mass sports and recreation events and holidays, to stimulate and motivate students to take physical culture and sports, to develop sports teams in universities that would popularize sports and educational institutions, expand the material base of the university for FKiS classes, etc. Only in this case it is possible to attract young people to the general physical culture and sports movement in the country and get the status of a sports power of the world.
