The analysis of scientific and methodological literature and best practices in training managers has shown that independent extracurricular work of students has a limited number of forms used [1].
The purpose of the study is to identify forms of extracurricular work for the formation of professional competencies of management students in a sports university and experimentally prove their effectiveness.
Methodology and organization of the study. To determine the forms of extracurricular work, a survey of experts was conducted, which included 12 teachers who have been leading professional disciplines of the training direction 38.03.02 "Management" for more than ten years. According to the opinions and suggestions of the expert group participants, organizational forms of extracurricular work were identified, which included: attending seven lectures and participating in seminars at specialized universities; participation in ten scientific and practical conferences, four scientific forums and festivals, which are distributed over eight semesters of a four-year training cycle.
As part of the pedagogical research, an experiment was conducted in which students of the experimental (EG, 14 people) and control (KG, 18 people) groups took part. In EG, independent training was carried out using extended forms of extracurricular work.
The results of the study and their discussion. As a result of the experiment, the level of formation of professional competencies of students of the experimental group significantly increased, and its significant differences between KG and EG were revealed: the first year (Uemp.=44÷57, Ucr.=82, α=0.05), second year (Uemp.=29÷52, Ucr.=66, α=0.05), third year (Uemp.=25÷46, Ucr.=61, α=0.05), fourth year (Uemp.=14÷43, Ucr.=51, α=0.05).
Conclusion. In the course of the study, it is proved that the expanded forms of extracurricular work of management students at a sports university contribute to the effective formation of professional competencies of a future specialist.
