Development of research activities at Physical Education and Sports Faculty of Lobachevsky university between 2016 and 2021

Objective of the study was to determine the importance of the focus research areas chosen by the Physical Education and Sports Faculty of Lobachevsky University in the last 5 years.
Methods and structure of the study. During the period 2016-2021 we analyzed the scientific efforts of the Physical Education and Sports Faculty of Lobachevsky University while collaborating with Russian and foreign scientific and educational organizations, as well as public institutions directly involved in forming region's policy relating to the physical education and sport.
Results and conclusions. During the period under review, one of the focus research areas at the faculty was a creation of technology to activate cognitive and physical reserves of the human body using hardware-software complex «Active Longevity». The above-mentioned complex includes the development of «Smart Home» for an elderly person to make his/her life easier by using personalized health monitoring (both physical and mental) based on biofeedback. Application containing information about this technology was submitted to the competition for «mega-grants». In addition, the results of another project entitled "Development of a predictive and non-invasive method for assessing exercise-induced disturbances in homeostasis by using salivary biomarkers" showed that a number of oxidative stress and muscle damage biomarkers in the athletes’ plasma and saliva had the similar changes during exercise. It demonstrates the potentially low variability of the differences for the studied indicators in the saliva and plasma samples, and their possible use in the sports medicine sector. The research results were published in Russian and international high-quality peer-reviewed journals related to sports science.
The authors conclude that the focus research areas chosen by the Physical Education and Sports Faculty of Lobachevsky University showed their importance and prospects for further development, which is reflected in successful collaboration with the scientific and educational organizations and leading scientists.
