Formation of valeological competency in future engineers

Objective of the study was to define and experimentally substantiate the pedagogical conditions contributing to the effective formation of valeological competency in future engineers.
Methods and structure of the study. The pilot work on the formation of valeological competency was carried out from September 2019 through May 2020 on the basis of Saint Petersburg Mining University. Sampled for the experiment were 244 first-year students of the mining and electromechanical departments. The methods applied were as follows: interview, questionnaire survey, testing, mathematical data processing.
Results and conclusions. The study enabled to identify and verify empirically the pedagogical conditions for the effective formation of valeological competency in future engineers. The realization of these pedagogical conditions was facilitated by e-learning according to the developed course "Valeology Basics". The findings indicated positive dynamics in the development of the valeological competency components in future engineers. A student must be an "active actor", which would intensify his mental and cognitive activities, promote personal goal-setting and responsible, independent decision-making. An important condition for the development of the student’s subjective position is the conformity, coherence of the external pedagogical impacts with his intrapersonal potential, individual experience and possibilities.
