Development of research activities at university of economics in physical education and sports

Objective of the study was to identify the focus research areas at university of economics by analyzing collaborative activities between the university research groups and sports organizations.
Methods and structure of the study. We analyzed the scientific efforts of the Physical Education Department of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics while cooperating with the Russian and foreign sports educational organizations in the period from 2017 to 2020.
Results and conclusions. During the period under review, the research activities were carried out within the contracts, government contracts, agreements, subsidies and grants of the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation. Active research activities of the teachers of the Physical Education Department positively affected the participation in international and national conferences (in 2020 more than 80 reports were submitted), as well as the number of monographs published. Textbooks, manuals, online courses on physical education, training sessions on elective physical education disciplines were developed and published on a scientific basis to provide training in the physical education and sports disciplines (modules), using mixed technologies. Collaborative activities of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics with the scientific, educational and sports organizations, scientific discourse in the field of physical education and sports resulted in the agreements with RUSADA (Russian Anti-Doping Agency), Russian and foreign universities and sports organizations.
The analysis of publication activities of the Physical Education Department staff revealed not only an increase in the total number of scientific articles indexed in the Russian Science Citation Index system but also a share of articles in the scientific journals recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation and peer-reviewed in the international citation databases (Scopus and WOS).
The authors conclude that the strategy of development of the research activities of the Physical Education Department staff is effective and forward-looking. The chosen areas of basic and applied research are universal and allow for successful collaboration with the scientific organizations and leading scientists.
