Peculiarities of organization of online physical education and sports classes at universities

Objective of the study was to identify challenges and opportunities for practical implementation of online physical training in technical universities.
Methods and structure of the study. The study was carried out on the basis of Saint Petersburg State University, where the online forms and methods of teaching, including the Physical Education discipline, were first applied in spring 2020. The students’ attitudes to this training system were determined through a survey of the 2nd-4th-year students of 9 faculties (n=890).
Results and conclusions. The study enabled to identify the pros and cons of online physical education and sports classes. The students gave an upbeat assessment of the online training system: on a 1-10 scale, 60% of respondents chose between 8 and 10. It is also important to note that 50.4% of students indicated that practical sessions had both a supportive and developmental impact, while 40.6% of respondents indicated a supportive effect only. The analysis of the student feedback on the proposed online training model revealed that it could be successfully used in distance learning. However, distance learning should not merely replace traditional academic learning but complement and enrich the existing forms of interaction between students and teachers.
