Objective of the study was to determine the level of development and the degree of influence of strength abilities on the performance of lifts in the aesthetic gymnastics competitive compositions.
Methods and structure of the study. The theoretical analysis and generalization of special literature data; analysis of video materials; questionnaire survey; pedagogical testing; expert evaluation; educational experiment; mathematical statistics methods. The study was conducted at the premises of Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health in 2018/2019. Subject to the study were the 1st-4t-year students, candidates and members of the St. Petersburg aesthetic gymnastics team (n=14).
Results of the study and conclusions. The analysis of video recordings of competitions of different levels showed that lifts are used in all compositions at the top sports mastery stage. However, out of 70 lift attempts made during 22 competitive programs only 21% were performed without errors. A total of 85 mistakes were made, of which the most frequent were: the dynamics of lift performance is violated (23.5%), the lower gymnast leaves the spot (32.9%), the upper gymnast arrives heavily (16.5%), the upper gymnast loses balance (10.6%). According to the coaches, the main causes of the errors may be: insufficient level of development of the strength abilities of female athletes, as well as lack of proper coordination of the team members' actions.

Keywords: aesthetic gymnastics, support, strength abilities, coordination of movements.
