Abstract
Objective of the study was to conduct an opinion poll and questionnaire survey of parents with children of preschool age and determine their readiness to organize physical education and sports activities at home and nursery schools.
Methods and structure of the study. Subject to the sociological study were 120 parents of the children attending preschool educational institutions in Krasnoyarsk. The study was conducted from February through May 2020. The sampled parents were offered specially developed survey forms that included questions covering different aspects: physical education of children at preschool educational institutions, different sports activities, sports cultivation, home stadium, physical development of children, sports sections, joint holidays and athletic events for parents and children; material and technical facilities at nursery schools, family sports culture, encouragement of children during their sports activities, need for physical education and sports seminars and master classes for parents, etc.
Results and conclusions. The questionnaire survey and opinion poll conducted among the preschoolers’ parents made it possible to gather sociological material and shape a common understanding of their readiness to organize physical education and sports activities at home and nursery schools, as well as their preferences for extending the physical education and sports services in preschool educational institutions. The findings showed that the respondents understood the high value of children’s physical education and sports activities and the need for regular sports activities, and joint sports holidays. At the same time, up to 50% of parents did not have sports corners at home; 45% of children did not attend sports sections, and more than 50% of parents did not have the necessary knowledge and skills to do sports with their children. Sports culture was not formed in more than 60% of families.
The sociological survey results should be used by teachers, educators, and specialists to modify the strategy of moral education and training of preschoolers and their parents.
