Introduction. A core determinant for the effectiveness of mental preparation for sport activities is an intellectual component of sport culture, which creates cognitive conditions for the application of individual mental skills to the selected sport [1]. The aim of functioning of the intellectual component of the individual’s sports culture is provision of development effectiveness of cognitive abilities of students in their sport activities.

The aim of the research – to substantiate experimentally the effectiveness of elaborated methods for the development of an intellectual component of student sports culture in the framework of integration of education, training and competitive activities.

Research methods and organization. The authors applied the complex of psycho-diagnostics methods for the assessment of criteria and indicators of the students’ level of intellectual capacities for sport activities, in order to achieve the aim of the research. The authors developed the integral methodology for the development of an intellectual component of student sports culture. The authors identified six sets of tasks of varying complexity for the assessment of complex parameters of the development level of cognitive abilities in the field of information, social, emotional and operational types of intelligence. Methodologies for the development of an intellectual component of student sports culture involved problem-based tasks aimed at the searching for intellectual problems and solution finding. The selection of methods depended on the complexity level of educational tasks. The authors applied in formative and receptive methods ensuring the development of mental processing, as well as the heuristic method aimed at finding solutions to organizational and methodical problem-based tasks.

Research results and discussion. The experiment involved the control group practicing cyclic sports and the experimental group practicing complicated coordination sports and sport games. At the beginning of the experiment, we revealed the average development level of an intellectual component of student sports culture in both groups by six studied parameters: mental and physical status, personal orientation, indicators of information, social, emotional and operational intelligence. At the end of the experiment, control group showed insignificant growth of development indicators of an intellectual component of student sports culture, except for the parameters of mental and physical status at an above-average level. At the same time, the experimental group demonstrated the high development level of an intellectual component of student sports culture by six studied parameters. It should be noted, that the intellectual coefficient of students remained constant in control and experimental groups in terms of convergent thinking indicators.

Conclusion. Therefore, the research results demonstrate the effectiveness of methodologies for the development of an intellectual component of student sports culture in the process of integration of education, training and competitive activities.
