Changes in psychophysiological state of basketball players engaged in taijiquan respiratory gymnastics

Objective of the study was to determine the effects of Taijiquan on the psychophysiological status of basketball players in the preparatory period of the annual training cycle.
Methods and structure of the study. The experiment involved 22 basketball players divided into 2 groups: Experimental Group (11 subjects aged 20±1.53); Control Group (20±1.43 years). The experiment lasted 4 weeks, during which the Experimental Group basketball players performed Taijiquan exercises for 10 minutes in the final part of each training session. The Control Group athletes performed exercises to develop flexibility and increase joint mobility. The effectiveness of Taijiquan respiratory gymnastics was determined in 5 psychophysiological tests - at the beginning of the experiment - to obtain the baseline data for the Experimental Group and Control Group basketball players, then 4 times at a 1-week interval. We used the "Diagnost-1" software (N.V. Makarenko, V.K. Lizogub). The study was conducted in the preparatory period of the annual training cycle at Shenzhen University (Shenzhen).
Results and conclusions. At the end of the educational experiment, there was a statistically significant improvement in all psychophysiological indicators in the Experimental Group (p<0.05). We observed slight changes by the end of the 2nd week of the experiment, pronounced ones - at the end of the 4th week. There were no significant positive changes in the Control Group (p<0.05). This testifies to the positive impact of Taijiquan exercises on the psychophysiological state of basketball players.
