Background. Having analyzed the modern institutional control mechanism for academic sports system, we found that they should ideally include the communication, strategic visioning and organizational components for success of every management activity.

Objective of the study was to rate benefits of the new institutional control mechanism for academic sports system.

Methods and structure of the study. We rated benefits of the institutional control mechanism for academic sports system model by a factor analysis that produced four key success factors for the future sport managers – namely the operational thinking and forecasting; all-round professional service fitness; and the legal/ regulatory and economic knowledgebase and skills in the physical education and sport service issues: see Table 1 hereunder.

Results and discussion. The factorial analysis and the relevant materials showed that the key success factors for the academic physical education and sport management service are the operational thinking and forecasting; all-round professional service fitness; and the legal/ regulatory/ economic knowledgebase and skills in the physical education and sport service issues. These factors may lay a foundation for the requirements to the academic physical education and sport service professionals [1, 2, 5]. The finding gives the reasons to believe that a practical success of the physical education and sport service management largely depends on the relevant competencies and skills.

Having analyzed on an integrated basis the key success factors for the academic physical education and sport service management, we developed the institutional control mechanism for academic sports system model including the following components:

  • Institutional component setting a clear framework for the physical education and sport service management and progress tests at the university;
  • Interactive component to establish a cooperative basis for the physical education and sport service goals being attained in every domain including the sport elite trainings, motivations for sport progress and habitual physical education and sport practices etc.; and
  • Forecast component to predict the institutional control mechanism for academic sports system progress and offer efficient service improvement options; find the best solutions for the upcoming problems in the academic physical education and sport service; and analyze the most promising experiences of the academic theoretical studies and practical trainings.

One of the key success factors of the professional academic physical education and sport service is the design and management of the applied/ combat sport/ GTO events at the university. To have this success factor objectively rated for the purposes of the study, we run a questionnaire survey of the academic physical education and sport specialists (n=86) including the instructors, trainers, academics and other experts to have and analyze their opinions on the academic physical education and sport events with a special priority to the applied/ combat/ GTO events based on their individual experiences. The expert team ranked the key individual success factors in this domain as follows: professional knowledge and skills (r=0.74); combat/ applied/ GTO events design and management resource (r=0.68); practical management skills (r=0.64); and the general education and personal athletic background (r=0.59). These factors may be recommended for the physical education and sport specialist professionalism rating purposes on the whole and within the applied/ combat/ GTO service domain in particular.

Furthermore, the expert team in its ranking of the professional physical education and sport service management success factors found the service quality being highly dependent on the following aspects: personality qualities of the physical education and sport specialist (r=0.78); individual theoretical and practical background in physical education and sport service (r=0.76); and the total professional (r=0.82) and special service record in the physical education and sport service system (r=0.84).

Conclusion. New model efficiency tests showed that one of the key success factors for the academic sports managers is how they are knowledgeable and skillful in the applied combat trainings and GTO Complex trainings and tests. It is also important that the institutional control mechanism for academic sports system factor analysis showed the model having a great potential for further improvements.

Abstract

Having analyzed the modern institutional control mechanisms for academic sports system, we found that they should ideally include the communication, strategic visioning and institutional components for success of every management activity. The study analyzes benefits of the frame concept of institutional control mechanism for academic sports system by a factor analysis to find the most relevant success factors for the future sport managers – including the operational thinking and forecasting; all-round professional service fitness; and the legal/ regulatory and economic knowledgebase and skills in the physical education and sport service issues. The above combined factors of influence on the management service efficiency were used to develop the institutional control mechanism for academic sports system with its interconnected substructures including the institutional, interactive and forecast ones.
