Yakutia and sport: a sound mind in a sound body

Development of physical culture and sport in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), like in other subjects of the Russian Federation, is considered in view of qualitative improvement of citizens' life, satisfaction of the need for self-perfection, following of the norms of healthy way of life. Health of every single citizen of the republic is one of the principal targets in realization of actions in the sphere of sport and conducting sports-recreational measures etc.

In 2012 the total of championships, tournaments and competitions was 66, whereas in 2011 it was 61. The number of participants of championships, tournaments and competitions amounted to 8956 persons in 2012, 8494 – in 2011 and 8350 – in 2010.

V International sports games “Children of Asia”: from children’s sport to peace on Earth

Recently children’s and youth sport has been developed in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) within the system training for the International sports games “Children of Asia”. Organization of the “International sports games “Children of Asia” is stipulated by the strive for qualitative development of children’s and youth sport and overall support of the international sports movement.

The purpose of the games “Children of Asia” is promotion of Olympic movement ideas, development of children’s and youth sport and strengthening of international sports cooperation.

18 regulatory legal acts have been approved to prepare for the International sports forum “Russia – sports power” and the V International sports games “Children of Asia”.

The V International sports games “Children of Asia” have become the largest event of 2012 in the sphere of international cooperation in the field of sport. The games took place in Yakutsk, Mirny and Neryungri of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) on July 4-16 2012 within the International sports forum “Russia – sports power”.

Teams from 26 foreign countries and 3 federal districts (Far Eastern, Siberian and Ural), 3 regions of Russia (Republic of Tatarstan, Republic of Bashkortostan and Moscow), including two delegations representing the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) (a total of 2131 persons) took part in the V International sports games “Children of Asia”. The Sakha Republic (Yakutia) was represented by two teams of the total of 372 athletes (223 males and 149 females from 30 republic municipal units), 97 trainers and team leaders, 5 administrators, 60 workers of the crisis center, team psychologists and doctors.

Competitions took place in 20 Olympic and non-Olympic sports. Proceeding from the results of the competitions within the V International sports games “Children of Asia”, most of the medals were taken by the national team of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) – 157 medals, the second place belongs to the national team of Siberian federal district (86) and the third place – to the national team of Kazakhstan (70). The fitness level of athletes was remarkably better compared to the previous Games. Most of the athletes were selected from the best athletes of the country and the region to allow to participation in the V International sports games “Children of Asia”.

International sports forum “Russia – sports power”: know how to win

  • By the resolution of president of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev the International sports forum “Russia – sports power” took place on July 4-5 2012 in Yakutsk  – the Sakha Republic (Yakutia).
  • The activities within the International sports forum “Russia – sports power” in accordance with the program of the Forum included:
  • Theoretical and practical conference “International sports games “Children of Asia” as a format of development of international sports cooperation and propaganda of the principles of “Olympism”;
  • All-Russian workshop and conference “On the course of realization of the Strategy of development of physical culture and sport in the Russian Federation for the period till 2020 in the aspect of creation of conditions for stable development of children’s and youth sport and the system of training of sports reserve for Russian sports national teams;
  • Round tables Scientific researches in the field of physical culture and sport: ideas and innovations”, “Mass sport and sports work in the Russian Federation: strategy, solution, projects”, “Problems of retention and development of traditional types of physical activity”, “Acute problems of organization of sports training in contemporary environment”, “On development of children’s and youth sport among the handicapped and actions on providing sports objects with necessary facilities for regular classes of physical culture”.

Elite sport: quicker, higher, stronger

In the academic year 2012 217 pupils trained in the groups of sports perfection, 194 – in the groups of elite sportsmanship. The contingent of the ones who trained at schools of elite sportsmanship totaled 411 persons, among which 15 Honored masters of sport, 28 world-class athletes, 158 masters of sport of the Russian Federation. 61 trainee of the school is in the basic and reserve national teams of Russia. 54 trainers in various sports are operating.

National sports: preserving the unique

In 2011 national sports of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) started the new stage of development. Yakutia, as a region with the set for decades effective system of organization of development of national sports, defined the quoted direction one of priorities of state policy in the field of physical culture and sport.

Three out of five national sports of the peoples of Russia included in the All-Russian list of sports are Yakut (Yakut jumps, Hapsagay wrestling, mass-wrestling). Hapsagay wrestling and mass-wrestling are the types of single combat officially declared by the International Amateur Wrestling Federation (FILA). The system of regional, All-Russian competitions in these sports has been formed. They are being actively integrated into the system of continental and world sports events.  

Children’s and youth sport: on the way to big victories

Regular classes of physical culture and sport are the most effective way to preserve and strengthen health, increase motor activity, form healthy way of life and teach morals and patriotism to the growing generation.

Creation of conditions for mass occupations of physical culture and sport for children and youth is one of the basic directions of work of the bodies of physical culture and sport, education and initial vocational training.

139 488 children learnt at 664 comprehensive schools in 2012 in the Republic. Physical education of children in accordance with the school curriculum is being realized by 1289 teachers, where 3 hours a week are assigned for classes of physical culture in every class. 31 221 pupils train in specialized children’s sport school, that is 22,4% of the total of pupils of comprehensive schools of the republic. The classes are carried out in 36 sports under the direction of 740 staff trainers. 62,2 % of trainers have higher sports education, 18,4 % – specialized secondary education.

Nowadays 53 children’s and youth sport schools are in operation in the republic, among which 50 refer to Ministry of education of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) and realize general physical training of the engaged ones. 3 sport schools are under the direction of Ministry for youth policy and sport of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) and train high-class athletes (in Churapchinsk, Suntarsk ulus and in Neryungri).

Conclusion. Ministry of youth policy and sport of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in collaboration with executive bodies, local government in youth policy, physical culture and sport, sports unions and federations in various sports, youth public organizations in their work keep to the fact that care for development of physical culture and sport and due realization of the basic directions of youth policy of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) is a principal constituent of the subject socioeconomic modernization.
