The Meaning of «Functional Training»

More recently such concepts as functional exercises and functional training have been introduced in the field of fitness and wellness. The first concept defines such exercises when multiple muscles and joints are used simultaneously to improve muscular endurance, strength, coordination, balance, posture and agility. The central idea of functional training is to improve human life via training which includes functional exercises, which are very similar to the most common everyday motions, have a pronounced effect of motor skill transfer. They are intended to restore the functions inherent in a healthy body, ready for everyday realities of life and sports occupations.
The purpose of the study was to order to analyze the popularity of functional training in Russia compared to other group power programs. The fitness services in 80 leading Moscow fitness clubs were subject to an analysis.
The programs Pump Body - Body-Bar, ABS and functional training were proved to be the most popular. However, it is functional training that is a weak element in respect to development and proof of its effectiveness compared with other power group programs, lacking the goal of this type of fitness training, methods of use in the variety of organizational forms and different contingent.
