There is a gradual replacement of the traditional paradigm of education in modern pedagogics of higher education, based on the passive assimilation of knowledge and training of "a knowledgeable man" by the new paradigm, which is based on the principle of forming a "thinking man", who can be creative and improve himself.
The purpose of the present study was to carry out a theoretical analysis of substantial basis of distance learning in the process of physical education.
Modern computer telecommunications can provide knowledge transfer and access to a variety of educational information same as traditional learning technologies, and sometimes even much more effectively. Experiments have confirmed that the quality of teaching in distance learning is often much better than in traditional forms of teaching. The introduction of distance learning technologies into the university educational process will enable students: to learn the professional state educational standard in the university environment and get quality training in view of individual needs; organize an individual learning path in accordance with the chosen level of professional skills, form and pace of learning; to implement individual abilities, to acquire the skills of creative intellectual assimilation of the modern ways of thinking, using the achievements of the domestic and world science.
