Introduction Professional excellence in any field is fundamentally rooted in individual abilities. For architecture students, the capacity to estimate linear and volumetric dimensions of construction objects without specialized tools constitutes a critical psycho-physiological skill. Linear visual estimation is essential for drafting and sketching, while volumetric estimation is crucial for design and modeling. Thus, studying visual perception of form and space remains highly relevant in architectural education.

Research Objective To identify the influence of team sports on the development of visual estimation abilities among architecture students.

Methods and Research Organization The study was conducted at the Department of Physical Education, Institute of Architecture and Construction, Volgograd State Technical University. Participants included 40 female 2nd-year architecture students.

Assessment Protocol:

  • Visual estimation ability was measured using reference line segments of varying lengths as test stimuli.
  • Intervention: Team sports training focused on:
  1. Target accuracy (ball throws from different distances)
  2. Precision passing
  3. Tracking moving objects
  4. Cognitive decision-making during gameplay.

Statistical Analysis:
Absolute error (AE), relative error (RE), and accuracy (A) were calculated pre- and post-intervention.

Results and Discussion
Post-intervention data showed statistically significant improvements (p < 0.05):

  • 33.3% reduction in AE (1.2 m → 0.8 m)
  • 52.6% reduction in RE (0.19 m → 0.09 m)
  • 10% increase in accuracy (81% → 91%).

These enhancements correlate with:

  • Better spatial and temporal judgment
  • Improved muscle effort differentiation during ball handling
  • Heightened game performance efficiency.

Conclusions Systematic integration of team sports into physical education curricula significantly enhances architecture students’ visual estimation abilities by 10% (p < 0.05), demonstrating cross-disciplinary applicability of sports training for professional skill development.
