Shaboltas was used; to establish the importance of various reasons motivating to sports activities – the method «Study of Motives for Sports Activities» by I.V. Tropnikova. The study involved young kickboxers (n=86), as well as highly qualified athletes (n=52) to analyze changes in the motivational background during sports activities. The essence of the study was to analyze various motivational components of young kickboxers at the initial stage of sports training, analyze their choice of motives - categories, dominant preferences and attitudes. And also an analysis of changes in motivational components during sports activities.
Results and conclusions. The results of the study show that the desire to continue playing sports is very pronounced in young kickboxers, and they are more motivated than adult athletes. In highly qualified athletes, the range of selected motives-categories is sharply reduced. Thus, in highly qualified athletes, the leading reason for continuing to play sports is the need for material goods. Thus, highly qualified athletes believe that playing sports helps to improve their financial situation. Further, in the group of kickboxers, the following motives are relevant in descending order: «The motive to acquire skills and knowledge useful for life» and «The motive to increase prestige, desire for glory».
