Objective of the study was to analyze the historical stages of development and modern directions of activity of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Fundamentals of Health of NSU. P.F. Lesgaft.
Results and conclusions. The article presents historical information about the formation and development of the main scientific areas of activity of one of the oldest structural divisions of the National State University of Physical Education, Sports and Health named after P.F. Lesgaft – the Department of Preventive Medicine and Health Fundamentals. The contribution of scientists whose work is related to teaching various medical disciplines, which ensured the formation of such a scientific branch as hygiene of physical education and sports, is disclosed in detail. It is shown that, relying on the rich history and traditions of previous generations, the department is currently developing in accordance with the current demands of society, contributing to the high-quality training of highly professional trainers and specialists in physical education and sports activities.
