The purpose of the study is to substantiate the functions of the asset of the student group in joint management with the curator of the educational, sports and educational activities of the team in the conditions of a sports university.
Methodology and organization of the study. A theoretical analysis of information sources on the problems of management, physical culture and sports, pedagogy and psychology in the educational activities of a sports university is carried out.
The results of the study and conclusions.  The algorithm for organizing the group's assets is built in the following sequence, including the selection of activists based on the study of students' value orientations, their needs and the distribution between them of the functions of managing educational, sports and social activities of the student body. 
The author concludes that since the majority of student-athletes are leaders and strive to achieve high results in both sports and educational activities, the curator should rely on the leadership aspirations of the group's asset in managing the student body.
