The purpose of the study is to consider the phenomenon of sports from the perspective of the concept of "equality and inequality" in modern society.
Methodology and organization of the study. Sport can be represented as a two-dimensional coordinate system that reflects the level of accessibility and opportunities (equality and inequality) for each individual's participation in sports activities.
The results of the study and conclusions. It is determined that the higher the inequality in sports, the more pronounced the desire of the sports community for equality. Along with the growth of unequal opportunities based on gender, racial discrimination, differences in income and accessibility of infrastructure, the range of sports is expanding, opening up vertical and horizontal social mobility of athletes.
In order to contain negative factors and deviations in the behavior of athletes and sports managers, traditions of harmonization of social relations should be preserved, smoothing out the interpolar differentiation of subjects of the sports space.
