Objective of the study was to based on a theoretical analysis of the formation and modern functioning of the sphere of physical culture and sports, substantiate the possibility and necessity of constructing a scientific and philosophical theory capable of serving as a reliable ideological and methodological basis for specialized science and ideology.
Methods and structure of the study. The logic of the study consisted of compiling three analytical reports: scientific (historical and cultural), philosophical (ontological) and philosophical (epistemological and axiological).
Results and conclusions. Sports and Olympism should not be discussed abstractly and unambiguously, as a general cultural and socially homogeneous democratic movement. In different eras, sports and Olympism, manifesting themselves as social institutions of civilization, have fulfilled and continue to fulfill fundamentally different social and class orders, but first of all – orders coming from the highest state and political authority; variable fluctuations of the agonal-sports tradition within the sphere of physical culture and sports depend entirely on the changes occurring in the main spheres of the functioning of the social system as a whole.
Keywords: scientific and philosophical theory, the field of physical culture and sports, ideological and methodological basis, specialized science and ideology.
