Analysis of a survey of first-year technical university students on attitudes towards physical culture and sports

Objective of the study was to identify the readiness of first-year students for physical education and sports classes, taking into account their health group, the presence of sports experience, as well as preferences in types of physical culture and health activities.Methods and structure of the study. The study involved 1st year students of Gubkin University (RSU of Oil and Gas named after I.M. Gubkin) in the amount of 1669 people, full-time students, male and female. At the end of the 1st introductory lesson in physical education, students filled out a specially designed questionnaire, which was previously posted on the university’s educational Internet portal. The questionnaire contained questions about the health group (presence of chronic diseases), the presence of sports ranks and insignia of the All-Russian Sports Federation of Sports and Defense (GTO). When filling it out, students also described their school experience in physical education and sports activities, and chose the educational department (sports games, GTO, athletic gymnastics or general physical training) in which they would like to engage in physical education in accordance with the university curriculum.
Results and conclusions. Taking into account the obtained data makes it possible to increase the efficiency of organizing educational and extracurricular activities, to make the process of physical education more personalized, aimed at solving the problems of professionally applied physical training of students. The guarantee of high-quality training of future bachelors is ensured, among other things, by the use of means and methods of professionally applied physical culture, the basic part of which is laid in the first year of study at the university, and the content part should be focused on the specific contingent with whom it is necessary to work throughout term of study. In this regard, the use of the first-year questionnaire allows you to make the necessary adjustments to the content of the program when implementing the academic discipline «Physical Culture», which significantly improves the quality of the educational services provided.
