Introduction. The study of mechanisms important for maintaining the functional optimum in the body during regular physical activity is of great importance for the theory and practice of sports [1]. The working capabilities of the cardiorespiratory system are of high importance for long-term maintenance of high performance under severe physical exertion [2]. In this regard, it remains very important for sports science to assess the level of development of the respiratory system in young men engaged in power sports.
The purpose of the study is to clarify the degree of development of the respiratory system in young men engaged in arm sports.
Methodology and organization of the study. A group of 25 young men was examined. There were 12 healthy young men who regularly engaged in arm sports over the past year, and a control group consisting of 13 healthy young men who had never physically participated in sports activities before and did not experience muscle loads higher than household ones. The functional parameters of the lungs were determined by calculating the Student's t-test based on the results obtained.
The results of the study and their discussion. The value of the vital capacity of the lungs in untrained young men turned out to be 4.28±0.46 liters, whereas its value in those who were engaged in sports was 5.87±0.29 liters. The volume of forced lung capacity in the control group turned out to be low (3.75±0.34 liters), whereas in trained individuals it amounted to 5.91 ±0.38 liters. Forced exhalation in half a second and per second in sports exceeded the control by 32.7% and 34.4%. The value of the athletes' average volumetric velocity in the range of 25-75% of the volume of the forced vital capacity of the lungs was 29.7% higher than in the control.
Conclusions. Young men engaged in the armsport section are characterized by high volume and high-speed respiratory parameters. Due to the great functional perfection of the respiratory system of those involved in armsport, this sport can be considered a very effective option for strengthening the respiratory system in adolescence.
