Objective of the study was to assess the relationship between indicators of the moral sphere and personal characteristics of highly qualified athletes.
Methods and structure of the study. The experiment involved 44 athletes with the sports title “Master of Sports of Russia” in freestyle wrestling, studying at the Churapcha State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, the Olympic Reserve School, the Republican School (College) of the Olympic Reserve named after. R.M. Dmitrievich of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The study was conducted during the training camps 2017-2023 at the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education Churapcha state institute of physical education and sports in the summer.
Results and conclusions. The results of the experiment indicate the influence of the moral maturity of high-class athletes on the ability to boldly and firmly make decisions in difficult life situations, relying on their moral values, in which the sphere of self-development in physical culture and sports plays an important role. The moral maturity of high-class athletes influences the formation of an internal locus of control in situations of both success and failure in sports activities, as well as awareness of the importance of reflection in complex social situations of interaction.
