Sports practices as a means of human capital development in Saint Petersburg

Introduction. Sport in the life of people has an important social significance. The social environment in which a person lives has a special influence on the attitude to sports [1]. On the one hand, depending on the sports conditions of the urban infrastructure, individuals' attitude to sports is formed, and on the other hand, it is worth noting the importance of sports for people's lives in urban life, where sport plays an important role as a factor in the formation of human capital, increasing a person's competitiveness in the conditions of his professional activity.
The purpose of the study is to identify the role of sports leisure in the life of residents of St. Petersburg.
Methodology and organization of the study. From June to July 2023, a sociological study was conducted, the content of which consisted in an Internet survey of residents of St. Petersburg. 120 respondents participated in the sociological survey. The sample was random, the results of the study do not claim to be representative. The median age of respondents was 22 years. The research was aimed at identifying and posing problems related to the role of sports practices in the life of residents of St. Petersburg.
The results of the study and their discussion. According to the respondents, 94% consider sports leisure to be a manifestation of a healthy lifestyle. The most significant functions of sports leisure, according to the respondents' answers, are the development of strength, endurance, psychological stability, improving a person's mood, overcoming dull everyday life and educating a person's character. The respondents place the greatest emphasis on improving the psychological state when doing sports leisure in St. Petersburg. 78% of respondents are ready to spend their free time for sports leisure, while 40% of respondents believe that sports leisure does not help in their professional activities. Among the respondents, 55% of respondents have been engaged in professional sports in the past.
The average age at which respondents completed their professional career is 18 years. An interesting fact is that respondents who have been engaged in professional sports before declare the main goals of sports leisure – physical fitness and health. In turn, respondents who were not engaged in professional sports, highlight pleasure and results as the main goals of sports leisure.
77% of respondents are sure that work colleagues have a positive attitude to their sports leisure activities, 2% believe that work colleagues have a negative attitude and 21% find it difficult to answer this question.
Conclusion. The respondents' answers indicate that sports leisure plays an important role in the life of residents of St. Petersburg. Respondents see sports leisure as an opportunity for psychological rebooting and recovery.
