Objective of the study was to reveal the structure of the protective and coping behavior of young teachers - teachers of physical education and to establish a connection with emotional burnout.
Methods and structure of the study. The experiment was carried out at the State University of Management, Russian Economic University named after G.V. Plekhanov, which was attended by 64 people aged 22 to 26 years with experience in the profession from 1 to 3 years. Diagnostic methods: the technique "Questionnaire of emotional burnout Maslach (MBI)" (adaptation by N.E. Vodopyanova); the method of R. Lazarus "Methods of coping behavior" (adaptation by T.L. Kryukova); the method "Index of lifestyle" (adaptation by L.I. Wasserman).
Results and conclusions. According to the results of the study, it was revealed that emotional burnout among young teachers is associated with various coping strategies and defense mechanisms. However, it is impossible to derive a single formula and say that problem-oriented coping helps young teachers - teachers of physical education to avoid emotional burnout, and emotionally-oriented - vice versa. Only a few strategies and defenses that contribute to the development of emotional burnout can be unambiguously identified: the strategy of confrontation, the strategy of taking responsibility and the strategy of flight-avoidance, suppression, regression and substitution.

Keywords: emotional burnout, coping, defense mechanisms, defensive coping behavior, stress, young teachers - teachers of physical education.
