Introduction. Competitions between universities and especially with sports teams of foreign educational institutions are of great importance for the popularization and development of student sports. All this requires the effective construction of a system of sports training of students in universities.
The purpose of the study is to conduct a comparative assessment of speed and strength fitness and physical development of students of universities in Russia and Iraq engaged in volleyball.
Methodology and organization of the study. The scientific work was attended by sports teams of Baghdad University (Iraq) and Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical University named after V.P.Astafiev (Russia, Krasnoyarsk) in the number of 30 people.
Research results and conclusions. The results of the conducted testing showed that volleyball students from Iraq are 1.4 cm taller (0.8%) than students from Russia, 0.7 kg heavier (0.9%) and jump in height from a place higher than students from Russia by 11.3 cm (26.1%). At the same time, Russian students have higher rates in flexion and extension of the arms in the prone position by 14.7 number / times (32%), in lifting the trunk in one minute – by 6.4 number / times (14.6%) and in running 30 m – by 0.3 s (7.7%). Thus, Iraqi volleyball students outperform Russian students by 0.9% in physical development, but they are inferior in speed and strength training by an average of 7.1%.
Conclusion. The analysis of the physical development and speed-strength fitness of students engaged in volleyball at universities in Russia and Iraq showed that in the sports training of Russian students, more attention is paid to speed-strength orientation, maintaining a good game pace, at the same time, the training of Iraqi students is based on playing at the net: attacking and blocking actions. This analysis allows us to see the accentuating aspects of the sports training of the student volleyball teams of Russia and Iraq, which must be taken into account to increase the effectiveness of sports training and effectiveness in competitive activities.
