Abstract
Objective of the study was to determine the number of rotations and their angular indices when performing different rotational movements in rhythmic gymnastics.
Methods and structure of the study. The study included an analysis of the video materials from the 2019 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championship and Russian Championship. Sampled for the study were 18 strongest gymnasts of the world and Russia; they were tested for the mean group angular indices and number of rotations when performing different rotational movements using "Goniometer" software. We measured the external angle between the support and swing-up legs, the angle between the support leg and the trunk, and the angle between the trunk and the swing-up leg. The internal angle was calculated as follows: 360° - external angle = external angle.
Results and conclusions. In their competitive routines, highly-skilled female gymnasts use the penché turn more often than other types of turns. The data obtained indicate that in all types of turns, the external angle between the support and swing-up legs exceeds 180°. The leading gymnasts of the world and Russia were found to perform three rotations on average, except for the most complicated turn in the front split position with the trunk tilted backwards (the number of rotations - 1, 4).
Keywords: turn, external angle, internal angle, turning technique, number of rotations.
