Physical culture and youth: results of the scientific forum

On February 18, 2022, the St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions hosted the traditional, XVIII All-Russian Scientific and Practical conference "Physical Culture and Youth Health", which was attended by teaching staff from higher educational institutions of St. Petersburg, Russia and neighboring countries.
The first Vice–rector of St. Petersburg State University L. A. Paseshnikova addressed the participants of the conference with a welcoming speech, who noted that the main purpose of the conference is to generalize and disseminate the accumulated scientific and practical experience in the field of physical culture, improve the quality in organizing and conducting training sessions, sports and mass work.
The editor-in-chief of the journal "Theory and Practice of Physical Culture and Sports", professor of the Russian State University of Physical Culture, Sports, Youth and Tourism, Ph.D. L. I. Lubysheva in the report "Sport, youth, Olympism: in the paradigm of representations of sports students", focused on the social problems of Olympic sports. The conducted sociological survey among student‑athletes allowed us to conclude that an important role in students' understanding of the ongoing transformations in Olympic sports is acquired by professional education, within which knowledge about the Olympic Games, the history of the Olympic movement, about the humanistic ideals and values of Olympism is formed; interest in sports is developing; skills of active participation of youth in sports activities are acquired of various directions.
Director of the Institute of Physical Culture and Sports of the Herzen State Pedagogical University, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor A.M. Fokin in the study "The effectiveness of the use of distance learning systems in the physical culture and sports activities of the university" shared his experience of organizing educational activities in a sports university in a pandemic.
The report of the Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, associate Professor of Surgut State University N. V. Peshkova, was devoted to the study of the influence of various types of motor activity on the psycho-emotional state of young people.
Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of St. Petersburg State University I. V. Sokolova, proved the role of means and methods of physical culture in the development of socially significant qualities of students.
Conclusions. The issues discussed at the plenary and breakout sessions aroused great interest and lively discussion. The conference participants shared their knowledge and best practices in the use of methods of physical culture and sports work for the further development and improvement of physical education teaching at all levels of education. The high level of organization and relevance of the presented reports were noted.
