Objective of the study was to identify the main research directions of the domestic and foreign theses on cyclic sports in recent years.
Methods and structure of the study. The article deals with the domestic and foreign theses for 2017-2020 on the most "medal-intensive" cyclic sports of the Summer Olympics - track and field athletics (running types), cycling, rowing (academic rowing and canoeing), and swimming. The selection of works included those on the athletic training in the above sports, adaptive sports among them. The archives of the Russian State Library were used to search for the domestic dissertations submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the candidate and higher doctorate degrees.
Results and conclusions. The study enabled to identify four main research directions, analyze the pattern of distribution of the domestic and foreign theses according to the identified directions, as well as determine the peculiarities of distribution of the subjects of the domestic and foreign theses. It is shown that most of the thesis works on cyclic sports by the domestic authors are devoted to the pedagogical aspects of athletic training, while the number of those dealing with the biomedical, biomechanical, and psychological aspects, which predominate in the thesis works of the foreign authors, is insufficient or entirely absent.
